Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly industry continued to expand in 2026, with domestic plants producing and assembling 11.17 million mobile handsets during the first five months of the year, significantly exceeding the 1.91 million units imported commercially during the same period.
According to official data, locally assembled mobile phones included 4.92 million smartphones and 6.25 million 2G feature phones, highlighting the growing contribution of domestic manufacturing to meeting the country’s mobile device demand.
The data also revealed that local manufacturers assembled 101,005 5G-enabled smartphones in May 2026. This compares with 553,079 5G-enabled devices assembled during 2025, reflecting ongoing efforts to expand the availability of next-generation mobile technology in Pakistan.
The country’s mobile manufacturing sector recorded strong growth in 2025 as well. During the full calendar year, local plants manufactured and assembled 30.21 million mobile phones, compared to only 2.37 million commercially imported devices, underscoring Pakistan’s increasing reliance on domestic production.
According to data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, smartphones now account for 72.3 percent of all mobile devices operating on Pakistan’s mobile network, while 27.7 percent remain 2G devices.
Industry observers say the continued expansion of local manufacturing has helped reduce dependence on imports, support employment, strengthen the electronics sector, and improve access to affordable mobile devices across the country.
The growth in smartphone adoption is also expected to support Pakistan’s broader digital transformation efforts by increasing access to mobile internet services, digital payments, e-commerce platforms, and online public services.
