Hassan Aziz has been named dean of the College of Health Sciences and Technology at Rochester Institute of Technology.
He joins RIT from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where he currently serves as dean and professor of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. He was selected as dean after a national search and will assume the role on Aug. 1.
Aziz, a Fellow of the Association of Clinical Scientists, brings to RIT extensive international presence in higher education, consulting, and advisory work. He is president-elect of the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science and a past president of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.
He also serves as a peer evaluator for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and a site visitor for the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science.
Aziz has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and secured multiple grants and funded research projects. He has delivered numerous invited lectures and presentations worldwide on topics ranging from laboratory medicine and personalized medicine to health informatics and leadership in healthcare.
“Hassan’s career is a testament to his dedication, leadership, and passion for improving healthcare outcomes through education, research, and clinical excellence,” said Prabu David, RIT provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs. “I am delighted that he will serve as the next dean of the College of Health Sciences and Technology.”
In his previous roles, Aziz has served as Executive Associate Dean for Academic, Faculty and Student Affairs for the College of Health Professions at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He has also taught and held leadership roles in the health sciences at Qatar University (Doha), Georgia Regional Hospital (Savannah), and Armstrong State University (now Georgia Southern University), among others.
He holds a Ph.D. in science education and an MS in medical technology from the University of Southern Mississippi.
