Rochester, N.Y. — When the Rochester International Jazz Festival gets underway next week, vendors will be ready with more than just food and drink menus.
Dozens of food and bar staff members, plus festival volunteers, are getting hands-only CPR training from Rochester Regional Health leaders.
They say with more than 200,000 people expected, the more people who can respond quickly and confidently during a cardiac emergency the better for everyone.
Health experts say hands-only CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival after cardiac arrest.
“This is when I get to say, you don’t need to be a nurse or a doctor to save a life,” said Dr. Lekeyah Wilson, VP of Community Engagement and Social Impact at Rochester Regional Health. “It’s just being able to know how to do chest compressions, know how to call 911, and knowing how to get help.” She added, “Doing CPR saves a life, you can save a life, and so we want to make sure to put that skill into everyone’s hands.”
The jazz festival runs June 19 – 27. Click here for more information.
