ibis India, part of the Accor hospitality portfolio, has launched a nationwide beach clean-up campaign across Mumbai, Goa, Chennai and Kochi as part of its ongoing sustainability and responsible tourism initiatives.
The programme brought together hotel employees, local NGOs, civic authorities and community volunteers to undertake coordinated clean-up activities along beaches and shoreline areas. Participants collected plastic waste, litter and other pollutants while promoting awareness around environmental conservation, marine protection and responsible waste disposal practices.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over plastic pollution and its impact on India’s coastal ecosystems, rivers and marine biodiversity. With increasing pressure on waste management systems in urban and tourism-driven coastal destinations, the campaign sought to encourage community participation in preserving shoreline environments.
Through the clean-up drives, ibis India contributed to improving the condition of waterfront areas while supporting broader conversations around sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship. The campaign also included community engagement activities designed to encourage local residents and visitors to play a more active role in maintaining public spaces and protecting coastal habitats.
Commenting on the initiative, Vineet Mishra, Vice President – Premium, Midscale & Economy Hotels, India & South Asia, said:
“India’s vast coastline is not only an important ecological asset but also supports millions of livelihoods, communities, and tourism destinations across the country. With a presence across several coastal cities, ibis recognizes the importance of preserving these environments and promoting responsible practices that contribute to their long-term sustainability. Through the beach clean-up drive, the brand brought together employees, local partners, and community members to undertake meaningful action on the ground while fostering greater awareness around responsible waste management and marine conservation. The initiative reflects ibis’ belief that collective action can play a vital role in protecting coastlines and advancing more sustainable destinations for future generations.”
The campaign aligns with ibis India’s wider sustainability strategy, which focuses on environmental awareness, community engagement and responsible hospitality practices. With several properties located in coastal and waterfront destinations, the brand continues to support initiatives aimed at promoting environmentally conscious travel experiences and contributing to the long-term sustainability of tourism destinations.
