Marriott International has announced the signing of an agreement with MS Group to introduce the first JW Marriott hotel in Nepal, marking a significant expansion of the company’s luxury portfolio in South Asia.
Expected to open in early 2031, JW Marriott Hotel Kathmandu Valley will be a newly built luxury property located along the Kathmandu-Bhaktapur corridor. The hotel is planned to feature 221 guest rooms and suites and will bring the brand’s focus on wellness, mindfulness and personalised luxury experiences to the Nepalese capital region.
The project underscores Marriott International’s continued growth strategy in South Asia and reflects increasing demand for premium hospitality offerings in Kathmandu, a destination known for its cultural heritage, spiritual significance and growing international appeal.
Located approximately 20 minutes from Tribhuvan International Airport, the hotel is expected to provide convenient access to Kathmandu and the historic city of Bhaktapur, home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites, traditional architecture and artisan communities.

The city is an amalgamation of timeless traditions, spiritual richness, vibrant energy and growing global appeal, making it an exceptional fit for JW Marriott. As demand for transformative luxury experiences continues to grow across the region, this signing reflects our commitment to expanding thoughtfully in gateway destinations that offer deep cultural resonance. JW Marriott Hotel Kathmandu Valley is envisioned to be a sanctuary of calm and connection, blending the brand’s philosophy of mindfulness and well-being with the soul and character of Nepal.”Gaurav Agarwal, Owner and Managing Director of Capital Hotels and Hospitality Ltd, said:
“I am thrilled to be collaborating with Marriott International once again to introduce another landmark luxury property in Nepal. As our new government advances its commitment to enhancing tourism and showcasing Nepal on the global stage, we are honored to play an important part in that journey. Our goal is simple: to offer guests an experience that blends the genuine warmth of Nepali hospitality with the highest standards of luxury, design, and service.”
The hotel is expected to form part of a larger mixed-use development that will include retail and entertainment facilities, alongside a casino that will operate independently from the hotel.
Plans for the property include multiple food and beverage venues, including an all-day dining restaurant, specialty restaurants, a lobby lounge, signature bar and JW Market cafe. Wellness facilities are expected to include Spa by JW, a fitness centre, swimming pool and the brand’s signature JW Garden concept.
The hotel will also feature more than 1,600 square metres of meeting and event space, targeting weddings, social gatherings, conferences and corporate events.
The signing further strengthens Marriott International’s luxury development pipeline in South Asia as Kathmandu continues to attract growing interest from both regional and international travellers.
