Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has announced the signing of a Taj hotel in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, further expanding its footprint in one of India’s leading leisure destinations. The project is a brownfield development with potential for future expansion.
Commenting on the signing, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President, Real Estate & Development, IHCL, said, “Shaped by its spiritual significance and evolving tourism demand, Dharamshala attracts a diverse mix of travellers. IHCL, celebrated for its commitment to responsible destination development, has expanded its leisure itinerary in the scenic state of Himachal Pradesh. We are pleased to partner with Atman Resort & Cottages LLP for this project.”
The 105-key Taj Dharamshala will offer views of the valley and the Dhauladhar mountain range. A key component of the development will be the restoration of the heritage wing known as White Haven Estate, which served as the Viceroy’s summer residence during the late nineteenth century.
The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, two specialty restaurants, a bar and a lobby lounge. Recreational facilities will include an indoor temperature-controlled swimming pool, fitness centre and the brand’s J Wellness Circle spa.
The property will also cater to meetings, conferences and social events through a banquet hall, terrace venue, pre-function areas and dedicated meeting rooms.
Sahil Sharma, Sadhna Sharma and Mrinal Sneh Singh, Partners, Atman Resort & Cottages LLP, said, “We are pleased to partner with IHCL to revive this heritage property. The hotel will contribute to the destination’s tourism and create new opportunities for the local community.”
Located in the foothills of the Dhauladhar range, Dharamshala is a major tourism destination known for its natural landscapes, spiritual significance and adventure tourism offerings. The town is home to the residence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and attractions including Namgyal Monastery, Bhagsu Waterfall, Dal Lake and Triund.
The signing reflects continued investment in heritage-led hospitality developments and the growing demand for leisure travel in Himachal Pradesh. With this addition, IHCL will have 27 hotels across the state, including 12 properties currently under development.
