OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) — Over two dozen Wisconsin counties were recently under ozone advisory, including the area.

Medical experts say it’s important for those who have conditions like COPD, emphysema or heart disease to pay attention to the air quality index.

If it’s moderate, people should take precautions, and if it’s high they should stay inside.

During times of high risk, those with respiratory issues should make sure they are prepared to deal with the risks.

“It’s just short bursts of exposure. And then make sure they have their inhalers and things. They take their normal medications so they’re on top of that. Now, don’t go out for a long walk when you know it’s a high-risk day,” said Dr. Jocko Zifferblatt, director of emergency at ThedaCare Oshkosh.

Winnebago County recently unveiled a flag system to show air quality in the area.
