Illinois has awarded new Medicaid managed care contracts that state officials say will improve healthcare services for millions of residents.
The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services announced six organizations have been selected to provide HealthChoice Illinois managed care coverage. The contracts were awarded to Aetna Better Health of Illinois, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Humana, Meridian Health Plan, Molina Healthcare, and CountyCare Health Plan in Cook County.
State officials say the new agreements will place greater emphasis on accountability, coordinated care, behavioral health services, and addressing social factors that affect health outcomes.
Nearly 2.4 million Medicaid recipients are enrolled in HealthChoice Illinois plans, representing about 20 percent of the state’s population.
The contracts are the first competitively procured HealthChoice Illinois agreements since 2018 and will run for an initial term of four-and-a-half years, with the option for renewal.
Officials say customers should see improved access to care, expanded support services, shorter travel times to appointments, and increased access to home and community-based care.
