A new partnership between Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Johnstown-based healthcare provider aims to train the next generation of doctors while expanding behavioral health education in the region.

IUP and Croyle-Nielsen Therapeutic Associates formally signed a clinical affiliation agreement on Monday.

The partnership will allow medical students to complete rotations at CNTA — gaining hands-on experience in mental health care and services for adults with disabilities.

“Those students are going to get some really significant real world experience that they can take anywhere they decide to practice when they’re done. We of course hope that they will choose to practice in this region,” says CNTA CEO Jesper Nielsen.

“This is really going to give medical students a unique opportunity to learn how to communicate, not just with standardized patients and patient actors, but to communicate with real humans with real problems and really start at the beginning of where it’s at, just connecting human to human,” adds Dr. Miko Rose.

The first group of IUP medical students is expected to begin rotations through the partnership as the college continues building its statewide clinical training network.
