WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Novant Health hosted a community day at Scotts Hill Medical Center ahead of its opening, giving neighbors their first look at New Hanover County’s first newly built hospital in decades.
Families and their pets attended the event outside the facility. Attendees met staff, learned about services and took guided tours inside.
The 250,000-square-foot hospital has 66 medical and surgical beds, eight ICU beds and 14 observation beds, according to Novant Health. The hospital is expected to employ about 700 employees.
“Our teams are just so excited to have access to be here,” Grant Rush, president of Scotts Hill Medical Center, said. “Many of our team members live and care here in our community and so being able to practice right down the road next to their neighbors is just so exciting for them.”
Rush said the goal is to bring healthcare closer to home as the area continues to grow.
“We’re really about creating healthcare in your backyards. How do we bring healthcare to the communities? How do we have access for healthcare?” Rush said. “We want to be able to come there, have our physician, our community that lives there for you.”
The facility is set to open at the end of June, according to Rush.
