GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The Trump administration has warned more than 500 hospitals nationwide over compliance with federal hospital price transparency requirements, including two ECU Health facilities in eastern Carolina.
According to a report from The Associated Press, hospitals on the list received warning notices or requests to submit corrective action plans related to federal rules requiring hospitals to publicly post pricing information.
Among the 11 North Carolina hospitals identified were ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville and ECU Health Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
In a statement to WITN, ECU Health said it supports the goals of federal price transparency requirements and believes patients should have access to clear and accessible pricing information.
The health system said the notice involving ECU Health Medical Center, which it says has since been resolved, was not related to a failure to publish pricing information. Instead, ECU Health said federal regulators identified technical issues involving the formatting requirements of a machine-readable file used to display pricing data. The health system said those issues were corrected within the timeframe allowed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
ECU Health said the notice involving ECU Health Beaufort Hospital stemmed from the facility’s organizational structure as a campus of ECU Health Medical Center. According to ECU Health, pricing information for Beaufort was already publicly available through the Medical Center’s pricing file. The health system said it has since posted a separate machine-readable file for the Beaufort campus to make pricing information for that location easier to access.
ECU Health said it remains committed to complying with federal transparency requirements and ensuring patients have the information they need to make informed healthcare decisions.
