Tammy Snyder, MPH, who has extensive experience leading large academic and community health systems, has been named chief executive officer of UVA Health University Medical Center. Snyder will assume leadership of the medical center on Aug. 3 from Kathy Baker, RN, NE-BC, FAAN, who has been serving as interim chief executive officer in addition to her role as chief nursing officer.
Snyder brings more than 15 years of experience guiding large-scale patient care operations, quality and safety initiatives and operational improvements.

As we continue advancing our mission across the Commonwealth, we sought a leader with the vision, operational expertise and values necessary to guide our next chapter,” said Mitch Rosner, MD, MACP, FRCP, chief executive officer of UVA Health and executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Virginia. “Tammy distinguished herself through her ability to lead with transparency, authenticity, humility and purpose – qualities that will strengthen our culture across UVA Health.”
Snyder now serves as senior vice president of system operations for Rochester Regional Health, a nine-hospital health system in upstate New York that includes a network of outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centers, urgent care centers, senior care facilities, behavioral healthcare services and laboratory services. She previously served as president and chief operating officer of Rochester General Hospital, Rochester Regional Health’s flagship hospital, where she led operations, strategic execution, quality, patient safety and workplace culture across an organization of approximately 8,000 employees with a $2 billion operating budget.
Before joining Rochester Regional, Snyder served as chief administrative officer for the Department of Medicine at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine. She oversaw administrative, clinical, research and educational operations across multiple medical specialties and four hospital campuses, supporting more than 500 physicians and 1,600 employees.
Earlier in her career, Snyder spent more than 13 years at Johns Hopkins Medicine in progressively more senior leadership roles, including chief administrative officer for the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and chief of staff to the Johns Hopkins Hospital’s chief operating officer and vice president of medical affairs.
“Her collaborative leadership style, focus on accountability and ability to translate strategy into measurable results will help us continue delivering exceptional care, education and research,” Rosner said.
Snyder said she is excited to come to Charlottesville and work alongside the medical center’s thousands of team members to build on their high-quality care and service.

Snyder earned a bachelor’s degree in health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree of public health in health policy and administration from Yale University’s School of Public Health.
Rosner also thanked Baker for stepping in as University Medical Center’s interim chief executive officer.
“Kathy’s steady guidance, commitment to our teams and servant-leader approach have helped maintain operational strength and organizational momentum, and I am deeply grateful for her partnership in the months ahead as we await Tammy’s arrival,” he said.
