Galaxy S23 users are reporting display issues after installing Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update. There are multiple claims of green and pink lines appearing on affected devices.
The reports suggest the problem is showing up shortly after updating. Some users say the issue appears during or after the installation process. In a few cases, overheating during the update has been mentioned as a possible trigger. However, this isn’t confirmed and shouldn’t be treated as the sole cause. One user even claimed they tried keeping the phone on an ice tray while updating. This highlights just how cautious some owners are becoming.
The issue doesn’t appear to be isolated either. Reports have surfaced across Reddit, X, and Samsung’s own community forums. Galaxy S23 and S23 Ultra owners are describing similar symptoms. In most cases, the defect presents as vertical green lines, though some users have also reported pink lines appearing on the display.
What makes this more concerning is that it’s happening in the context of a relatively broad One UI 8.5 rollout. This update otherwise brings a range of new features and refinements. Instead, attention is now shifting toward whether the update is triggering or exposing an underlying display issue in certain devices.
There’s also uncertainty around repair costs. While Samsung offers free screen replacements for affected devices within a three-year window, users outside warranty coverage may not be so lucky. In India, service centres are said to be quoting around Rs. 19,500 (roughly $206) for a replacement display. This significantly raises the stakes for older devices.
It’s worth noting that Samsung has had isolated reports of similar “green line” display problems in the past across different Galaxy models. The frequency of complaints appears to have increased again alongside this latest update cycle. Some users are also pointing to other One UI 8.5 issues, including software glitches like broken dark mode and video calling problems. However, those appear to be unrelated to the display fault itself.
At this stage, Samsung has not issued an official statement specifically addressing the S23 reports. Until more clarity emerges, users who haven’t updated yet may want to wait before installing One UI 8.5. This is especially wise if they’ve had no prior display issues.
