WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The Marathon County Health Department is giving a warning about blue-green algae at the Big Eau Pleine.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the department is advising people and animals to avoid contact with or drink the water.
The blue-green algae can look very distinct, sometimes like spilled paint.
No water samples could be collected today because of its presence.
Three years ago, a similar situation happened which led the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to investigate reported illnesses of swimmers.
